Site Analysis

The sooner the better is the mantra here because physical evidence starts to deteriorate immediately. It can be moved or destroyed whilst weather and traffic erode marks. Site conditions can alter,  verges and hedges grow, signs and markings can be repaired and even the road can be resurfaced.

Whenever the site is investigated it is essential to record all of the details however insignificant they may seem to be. I also check site's history to find out whether there have been other incidents and, if so, ask whether there have been other, similar accidents or whether a pattern is developing?

Recording with still images, video and laser-scanner allows detailed examination at every stage allowing reconstruction and demonstration to be considered as the case develops.

Criminal Cases

I bring over 20 years' of service as a full-time Police Collision Investigator and have carried this experience through into my independent practice. My in-depth understanding of Police procedures coupled with a wealth of Court experience gives me firm foundations from which tackle the most complex cases.

Vehicle Examination

Considering whether a mechanical fault or failure caused or contributed to a collision is still an important aspect of an investigation. Thankfully modern vehicles rarely suffer significant defects but that does not mean they should be overlooked.

In addition vehicles carry greater amounts of on-board data within the various 'event recorders' and these can be downloaded to show precisely what the vehicle was doing in the lead-up to a collision.

So the vehicle examination today goes beyond simply ruling-out a defect and adds vital data to the reconstruction of events.

Civil Services

I have extensive experience in civil litigation services having provided consultation services to insurers, lawyers and individuals. Critical scrutiny and clear analysis of the evidence followed by an in-depth investigation and report is vital whether the claim is for £1700 or £17m. The true test is the ability to deliver properly-supported conclusions and evidence competently in Court.

Evidence Analysis

Collision reconstruction requires the examination of three primary factors, three times: environmental, mechanical and human factors; before, during and after the collision. The physical evidence is supported by witness accounts and interviews; these will be considered. Increasingly other data, such as CCTV and vehicle data are used to corroborate findings.

Various specialist programmes are used to thoroughly examine the evidence whether that is careful examination of images, data or by revisiting the location to get the correct perspective.

At the core of the investigation is the experience of a lifetime's work. It is vital that when all of the calculations and analysis has been done the results have true, real-world relevance.

Written Reports

My standard reports are Court-compliant and adhere to the rules of evidence. They can be provided in written or electronic form and even be interactive  having such things as video evidence embedded within the report.

Sources of all evidence will be shown as will all the research, tests and background material providing a clear, ordered and logical account.

Reports are supported by photographs, video and plans where appropriate. These can be contained within the report or as separate documents to meet clients' needs.
